Barbie!
Hi all, have a night to myself so thought I would hold myself to the commitment I made a while ago to spend one evening a work writing and reading Substack rather than watching Pointless (insert your choice of afternoon game show) or browsing Instagram. Hope you’re all well-the weather in London has been more like October of late than what you would expect in the height of summer but hope summer is still treating you well!
I’ve had a pretty good couple of weeks and a highlight was seeing Barbie! I didn’t make it for the opening week but even 10 days after opening still the cinema was the busiest I can remember it for years which was nice to see. I really enjoyed-it was escapist, colourful and smart. For me the right amount of thought provoking but not preachy and still took me away to a different place and how I like my films to be. The fashion was great and colourful and what can you say about the cast-perfect casting from the leads to the many smaller parts played by the Sex Education cast….. and a random small part for Rob Brydon! I found it worth the hype-i’m not a regular cinema goer but was glad I booked this film in. For those who have seen it what did you think?
Reading
I’ve nearly finished “Trust” by Hernan Diaz- a novel containing 4 versions of the truth behind a couple in New York in the 1930s. It was long listed for the Booker Prize and I’ve enjoyed it-i like the different nature of having 4 viewpoints-it took me a little while to get into but after the first couple of chapters raced through it. What are you reading?
Running
I did my first 10k in 3 months last weekend so the 1/2 marathon training has officially started! Am aiming to build those longer runs by a k per week to achieve 17 or 18 just before the big 21 in October. Am also still keeping to 3 runs a week and am feeling pretty good for now! How’s your running or exercise going?
Thanks for reading and have a good weekend when it arrives!
Sian
